2011 BMW X6 xDrive 50i Review

You know that crossover SUVs are downsized versions of SUVs. Now, want something even smaller? Try out the 2011 BMW X6 xDrive 50i. This vehicle has the power of an SUV but with the shape and size of a coupe.

So what’s SUV-ish about xDrive 50i?

Concealed under that hood is a 4.4-liter, 32-valve V8 engine enhanced with Twin-power Turbo technology that’s capable of generating 400 hp.

BMW just loves rear-wheel-drive systems, don’t they? Despite being an intelligent all-wheel-drive, the X6 xDrive 50i is actually rear wheel biased. The reason, BMW engineers contend, is to ensure a more reliable grip on slippery roads.

Take note of the word ‘intelligent’ in the previous paragraph. In normal conditions, this vehicle spreads out drive forces with a rear-wheel bias. However, when the need arises, it can automatically distribute torque where it is needed. The result is better handling and traction.

Handling on this crossover is made even better with its Active Steering technology. Active steering features a variable steering ratio that matches the driving conditions. When you’re maneuvering at low speeds, the steering wheel is relatively more nimble. But when you reach high speeds, the steering ratio adapts accordingly for better stability.

Although the strong>X6 xDrive 50i is a 4-door, your second row passengers will have to undergo a tight squeeze. And since the rear end is steeply sloped, they’ll have to watch their heads as well.

That doesn’t mean your passengers at the back will be totally uncomfortable though. This is a BMW after all. Even the rear seats are individualized for superior seating comfort and there are DVD players to provide ample entertainment.

The 2011 BMW X6 xDrive 50i comes with a 16-speaker surround sound system, so you’ll hear those sounds clear and crisp. Other hi-tech enhancements include Bluetooth support, a rear-view camera, and an onboard navigation system.
